Byers Bicycle Bash

 

WHAT:  The inaugural Byers Bicycle Bash 100 km recreational bicycle ride.  Two shorter routes of 45 and 25 miles are also offered.  A fund-raiser event with proceeds benefiting the local K – 12 school for library and technology needs as well as funds for current maintenance needs of the volunteer fire department.  A hamburger feed will be held for all registered riders at the end of their journey in Byers.  All rest stops will be first class and fully supported at about every 10 miles. Sag and some mechanical support will be provided.  Average high temperature on May 17 is 82 with a low of 60.  If you are searching for that extreme experience, go to HH100.org and sign up for the HHH 100 in Wichita Falls on August 23, 2008.

This ride is being considered “A Warm-up for the Warm-ups” for HHH.

WHERE:  Starting and finishing area along Highway 79 North in downtown Byers, TX right near our major sponsor First National Bank of Byers.  All routes will be entirely on the extremely low-traffic, scenic, and rolling hills of northern Clay County passing through Petrolia and Dean.  The 100 km route partially overlaps with the 100 mile route of the famous HHH 100 mile route.

Be sure to check website prior to traveling to Byers for parking information.  Byers is a little over two hour drive form OKC and DFW and 18 miles from Wichita Falls and Henrietta.  See directions.

 

WHY:  To create another great cycling experience in the land of the HHH 100.   The HHH 100 is a Platinum sponsor.  The proceeds will benefit the local school and fire department.

 

HOW:  Through the support and generosity of over 50 sponsoring individuals and organizations in Clay County and the Wichita Falls areas and time and talents of dozens of volunteers and from folks like YOU…..cyclists and fitness buffs who “Ride to Live and Live to Ride”.  The major financial support of the First National Bank of Byers and United Regional HCS as well as the HHH 100 is especially appreciated.

Nearest RV sites are in Waurika (14 miles) and Henrietta (18 miles).  More details to come.  The Best Western in Henrietta along highway 287 is recommended for folks driving in from DFW and surrounding areas.  Call for rates.

Breakfast is available at two great cafes in Byers….one inside the general store on Main Street (Short’s) and the other just off Main Street on Route 171 east (Byers Gin Café).

 

Early registration fee will be $20 per participant with a fee of $15 for all students.  After May 9 12:00 noon, all rates go to $25.  On-line registration at www.bikereg.com will close at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 12.  T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 400 early registrants (by May 1). All riders will get the stand-by deluxe Byers goody bag including water bottle.
